Javier Barreiro Ramos

General Partner

Javier is co-founder of Arrebol Capital. As a kid, he was fascinated with futuristic technology that he saw in movies and books. His career choices have been mostly driven by that fascination.

Our founders benefit from his expertise in software, data science and AI,  as well as in all the aspects of building a technology company from scratch. He has been part of several early stage startups and understands the challenges of going from idea to MVP to main stream adoption.

For more than 8 years he was part of the AI research group at NASA Ames Research Center, where he was the lead for the EUROPA open source project. The automated planning software he helped create has been used in a number of NASA missions including Mars Rovers Spirit and Opportunity, the Phoenix Mars Lander, the LADEE Lunar Orbiter and the EDSN Cubesat mission.

His love for working at the intersection of business and technology took him through the main tech hubs in the US.  Throughout his professional career he has taken on most key roles in product development such as Software Architect, Engineering Manager, Pre-sales engineer, Forward deployed consultant, and Product Manager.  He spent 15+ years in enterprise software creating AI/ML products sold to Global 1000 companies in the US, Europe and Asia.

During 2014-2019 he was Chief Architect and executive team member at Orbital Insight, a Silicon Valley startup backed by Sequoia Capital and Google Ventures.

Javier lives in the San Francisco Bay Area with his wife and two sons. He loves to be active outdoors. In his spare time, he is likely to be found cycling in the Santa Cruz mountains, learning about genomics, AI or about some crazy idea for a new startup from his network of friends.

Javier holds Industrial Engineering and Computer Engineering degrees from Universidad de los Andes. He also holds an M.S. in Computer Science from Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute and an M.S. in Operations Research from The University of Texas at Austin.

William A. Mejia Ramos

General Partner

William is co-founder of Arrebol Capital. He is our FinTech expert and works daily to help founders refine their business model, navigate regulation, structure financing, assess valuation, and with just about anything corporate finance related. Most importantly, when he doesn’t know the answers, he opens his rolodex to seek expert advice from his connections in financial centers worldwide. He is also our link to capital markets, helping startups find their way towards a successful public offering or discover alternative exit strategies.

At Goldman Sachs and Credit Suisse, he helped investors for more than 10 years with equity analysis of financial companies in Latin America, Russia, South Africa, Turkey, and the Middle East. During his career in investment banking he called home some of the most vibrant financial centers in the world like New York, London and Dubai. He also led roadshows of successful IPOs in Turkey and Russia.

During his 5-year tenure at GAM Investment Management, William managed a USD 500mn Global Emerging Markets fund in Switzerland. He participated as an investor in some of the most interesting recent FinTech opportunities in emerging markets such as TCS Group in Russia; MTC in Thailand; and PagSeguro in Brazil.

William lives in Geneva with his wife and three children. He is a keen swimmer and is a regular participant in European Olympic-distance triathlon competitions. He is fluent in English, Spanish and French.

William holds a degree in Industrial Engineering from Universidad de los Andes, and a M.A. in International Economics and Finance from Brandeis University. During his graduate program he spent a semester abroad at ESSEC in France.
